LA-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Daktyl has released his new single “Pinnacle”, alongside a live performance music video filmed at the Trona Pinnacles in California. The track not only marks Daktyl’s first release of 2023 but also his debut on San Holo’s independent record label, bitbird.
Created in 2022 in collaboration with Red Dot Media in the Californian desert, “Pinnacle” is a song written by Daktyl specifically for the live performance video and therefore reflects both these geological features as well as the pinnacles Daktyl was experiencing in his personal life and career at the time.
“This song came about in an interesting way,” says Daktyl. “We had been looking for a place to shoot a live performance video somewhere in California, and my manager suggested the Trona Pinnacles. As soon as I saw them, I knew it would be the perfect location. The only problem was I couldn’t decide what song would work best for the location. In the end, I decided to write something especially for the occasion and took inspiration from the word pinnacle. The main lyrics came pretty easily and it was quite serendipitous because I’d been kind of reaching my own pinnacles in life and trying to overcome a few inner battles I’d been having creatively. I’m really proud of how the song came out.”
The nearly 8-minute-long video showcases Daktyl performing live solo while utilizing over 10 distinct organic and electronic instruments. From his saxophone and his guitar to Daktyl’s live vocals and the snaps of his fingers, “Pinnacle” is an mesmerizing chill electronic that raises anticipation for what else we may expect from him in 2023.
Daktyl has been creating a buzz in the music industry for a couple of years now, with some of the pinnacles of his career so far including praise from longstanding music pillar Billboard magazine, a spot in Rolling Stone’s “Artist to Watch” feature, and being chosen as Zane Lowe’s ‘Next Hype’ on BBC Radio 1. Daktyl has received tens of millions of stream collaborating with label such as Counter Records, Mad Decent, and Monstercat, has toured with ODESZA, Bonono, Troyboi, and Giraffage, and played at Coachella. More recently, Daktyl has independently released his latest album “Flood” last year, has opened for Slow Magic, and has collaborated with Red Bull Music on their 60-second challenge.
