Charlotte Sands is back with another new single, “Six Feet Under” today. Following her previous track, “Alright”, which kicked off 2023 with a bang, “Six Feet Under” finds Charlotte Sands once again blending genres and blurring the lines between punk and pop. While the new track (written with Megan Redmond and producer Danen Reed Rector) is immediately invigorating, the lyrics come from a more conflicted place: an internal battlefield in which crushing self-doubt threatens to derail the most promising of moments. And who hasn’t felt that in some way?
Speaking on the song, Charlotte says, “‘Six Feet Under’ is a song about having the impulse to sabotage your own life whenever it feels comfortable and the addictiveness of having highs and lows instead of balance and stability. It’s for anyone that finds themself having self destructive tendencies and constantly struggles with embracing solidity. I hope you love this song and I hope it brings you some kind of peace knowing you are not the only person who feels more at ease when surrounded by chaos.”
The genre-blurring sound that Charlotte captures is a simple representation of her varied passions: there are times when she might be drawn to the empowerment conveyed by Katy Perry or P!nk, but also others where the melodic rush of Paramoreor the cathartic intensity of Bring Me The Horizon speaks to her. It’s a mix that gives her music the freedom to cover a vast range of the sonic spectrum, as well as an eclectic array of collaborators or touring partners who have included My Chemical Romance, YUNGBLUD, Charlie Puth, Taking Back Sunday, Ava Max and Sleeping With Sirens.
The cocktail of attitude and accomplishment that sparkles throughout Charlotte’s music is reflected in her back story. She had the talent to be accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music. But after stealing her mum’s car so she could relocate to Nashville, she found the call of creating her own music too big to ignore. And as her music began to attract a burgeoning following, those studies were put on hold. After 140 million streams in just three years, it’s clear she made the right decision – especially as there’s much more to come.
That future continues with a selection of major summer shows, including the Shaky Knees Festival in the States, both legs of the UK’s Slam Dunk Festival, Rock im Park and Rock am Ring in Germany, and a huge outdoor show in Budapest with Simple Plan.
