Multi-platinum chart-topping band AJR are back with their new single, “The Dumb Song” today via their own AJR Productions label and Mercury/Republic Records. Marking their first song of 2023, the track is accompanied by a music video, which can be seen now below.
On the new track and official music video the band said, “We’ve wanted to write a song like The Dumb Song for a long time. Just a purely fun, crazy fast song that’s all over the place, but works in a weird way.”
The official music video intimately and hilariously documents the song’s genesis. A title card reveals, “It took AJR exactly a year and a half to make ‘The Dumb Song’.” It goes on to depict that “year and a half” with home video footage, insight into the track’s creation as well as what the boys have been up to in the past year-including heading off on their world tour. It’s a great inside view into the artistry behind the band’s production & songwriting skills- and showcases the hard work it takes to create a song.
Recently AJR have cranked up anticipation for their new era of music. They’ve teased its impending arrival on social media, dropping cryptic hints and enticing fans with what’s to come hinting “The New Era Has Begun. TMM”. Each release in the era – so far including singles “I Won’t” & “The DJ Is Crying For Help” – has given more and more hints as to what the new era entails. However, we can now assure you TMM is the new era of music for AJR—and it’s on the way.
Next up, they cross the pond to support Imagine Dragons in stadiums throughout Europe and will perform at Lollapalooza Berlin, Greenroom Festival, Seoul Jazz Festival, FEST Festival, FM4 Frequency Festival, Zurich Openair Festival, and SziGet Festival. Check out the full itinerary below.
