Independent Danish-Corsican singer MALU has released her new single, “Comfort Zone” today. The track, which finds her breaking away from predictability as the title suggests, celebrates change, arriving after MALU’s relationship of more than 7 years ended and she dropped her full-time studies to pursuit and be her true self. Listen to the track now below.
”Life is unpredictable. It’s full of surprises, people, experiences and moments that you never saw coming. The uncertainty about what’s to come can be frightening or even make you anxious and to some it helps to know what tomorrow or next week brings or even just what is going to happen in the movie you’re watching on Netflix. I’ve lived like that for years – safe and in control – but looking back, I never gave myself a chance to grow or develop, always living in my comfort zone.”
”Since I was a little girl, even the most insignificant bumps on the road have felt like standing at a crossroads. I’ve always wanted life to follow this straight path, when actually it’s all the detours, twists and turns that make it fun and spontaneous. I bloom through music; it gives me the strength to sing my way out of my identity crisis and develop as a singer but also as a human being. ‘Comfort Zone’ tells my story – but I know it reflects a story of many,” MALU tells.
’Comfort Zone’ is an uplifting soul-ballad – it’s warm like Spring with an edge of nostalgia and modern pop vibes. ‘Comfort Zone’ is also the first new single by MALU who debuted in 2021 with the self-released single, ‘Polish’, that from an early stage introduced an artist connected with her calm Danish roots enlivened by her soulful voice while a more flamboyant heart on her sleeve-way of expressing lyrical emotions and aesthetics comes from her Corsican background.
MALU is Marie-Louise Pierini Lüders. When she was 5 years old, two movers coincidentally came by her childhood home with a piano they were meant to get rid of. Eventually, the little girl convinced the movers (and her parents) that she was meant to inherit the beautiful instrument. From then, MALU fell in love with music, learned classical piano and grew up to sing in jazz and soul orchestras. As a solo artist, MALU has become quite a phenomenon on the Copenhagen live scene selling out every show she plays – and later this year, she will headline the legendary Vesterbro-venue, VEGA.
