Nashville indie-pop singer-songwriter, Young Summer is back with her dreamy new single, “Make Waves” today. The psychedelic, serene and vibey track exudes an aura of sultry rebellion as Young Summer luxuriates in the freedom and ecstasy of a love affair. Carried by Young Summer’s syrupy vocals, hypnotic production and a heady bassline, the track moves like a warm summer breeze. Listen to it now below.
Young Summer said of the track, “‘Make Waves’ is a love song about letting go of control and being ok with whatever happens next, something that can be incredibly hard to do. For a lot of us, it can be rare that we let ourselves be fully vulnerable but when we do it’s euphoric. The production is meant to be hypnotic and evoke the feeling of letting go and it keeps you there as each section gets increasingly dreamy. The song is like a spell being cast. ‘Make Waves’ is evidence that I’ve, at least once, truly let go and the song is my trail of breadcrumbs, it can help guide me back when I need it.”
The accompanying music video is whimsical and enchanting as it depicts Young Summer’s love affair with a fish-like river monster that she coaxes from a creek with a handful of colorful macaroons. Blending Allen’s love of 60s cinema with her love of monsters, the video finds a satisfying niche within the genre of magical realism; creating an appealing fantasy land for the mystical love to flourish.
