Sidney is taking listeners back to high school with her angsty new anthem, “Cool Girl“, out today. Written for anyone who feels like an outsider, the track is an ode to social anxiety and the ‘it’ girl. It was written with Eluera and Nick Zaharias during a Sydney writing trip last year. Listen to it now below.
Sidney elaborated on the song, saying, “Growing up as the lame christian with dorky glasses, I was set up to stand out just a little – not in a cool way…In most social settings, there is always ‘that’ person: mysterious, calculated and oh-so-cool. As chatty, overthinkers with chronic social anxiety, we dreamed up what it must be like to be them. Truthfully, ‘[we] don’t know how she does it’.”
Delivering bittersweet melodies laced with vulnerable lyricism, rising singer/songwriter Sidney has forged a unique brand of introspective indie-pop that wraps itself around you. Her debut EP ‘Imposter’ (released on October 7) featuring lead singles ‘Tried’ and ‘NICE GUY’ has amassed over 400K streams and landed on multiple Spotify editorial playlists including New Music Fridays AU/NZ, Fresh Finds Pop, The Local List, and Pop ‘n’ Fresh. The Melbourne artist recently joined Shannen James and Harrison Storm on both of their national tours and supported Australia’s sweetheart, Gretta Ray, at her ‘In Between Eras’ sold out shows. Sidney also has an extensive writing catalogue with other artists such as rapper 360, Eliott, Ūla, San Joseph and Eluera. As Sidney prepares to release a new body of work later this year, ‘Cool Girl’ sets the stage for what’s to come.
