Multi-hyphenate creative, MAVICA has released her sparkling new single, “no puedo decir que no (no regrets)” today. The eclectic Spanish language track finds MAVICA making peace with the ending of a relationship on the, melding elements of the electronic with dreamy pop production to achieve a glowing, celestial sound.
MAVICA said of the new track, “Sometimes it’s hard to learn how to say no to things but eventually we become owners of our own decisions. This song is about not regretting, but acknowledging that things could have been different if you had avoided getting/being influenced by someone or something. The song was written right before moving back to Spain during the pandemic and crafted in Madrid.”
“no puedo decir que no (no regrets)” opens gently with MAVICA’s angelic vocals. The single is a delicate haze of shimmering synths, tender melodies, and mellow percussion. As the track progresses MAVICA flaunts her aptitude as a producer, incorporating a vibey bass line and a steady, heart beat like drum to create the perfect build up to the song’s euphoric close. “no puedo decir que no (no regrets)” is a sonic silver lining, a comforting reminder to find beauty and hope even in the hardest of endings.
“no puedo decir que no (no regrets)” is MAVICA’s third single release of 2023. In April she shared the grounded, soothing “you could never do that” and a stunningly minimalistic music video (directed by Irene Calvo) that uses contemporary dance to explore MAVICA’s relationship to her body as a female performer. In May she released “are you back?”, an electronic-adjacent track that juxtaposes euphoric production with MAVICA’s tender vocals and melancholy lyrics to explore the pain of loving a person who is chronically inconsistent. The track was paired with a music video directed by Anna Parcerisas (Michael Kors, GUCCI, Coach) which masterfully incorporates vibrant colors and warm light and captures MAVICA in the midst of her longing for harmony. This summer MAVICA will hit the festival circuit, with performances at Primavera Sound and O Son De Camino.
