Breakout girl group, Boys World are kicking off summer with their new EP, me, my girls & i. The EP, composed of five empowering and compelling tracks, is the group’s second EP, following their 2021 release While You Were Out. The EP features two new tracks, “Funeral” and “wrong side,” as well as three pre-released singles: “SO WHAT,” “Mantrum,” and “me, my girls & i.”
Boys World had a huge voice in the writing process for me, my girls & i. Crafted together during sleepovers in the band’s living room and late nights at the studio, the EP is an illustration of Boys World’s own nonlinear experiences overcoming heartbreak. It’s real, raw, and undeniably relatable, wholly energized with a youthful zest.
The EP’s theme – portrayed in its wide range of styles – is that of heartbreak and finding support in your friends. Boys World tells a story with their tracklist, jumping in with their girls-night-out tracks, before giving the listener a glimpse into the underlying heartbreak at the core with their final, quieter tracks. From the breakneck “forget you” anthems “SO WHAT” and “Mantrum,” to the female friendship anthem, “me, my girls & i,” the opening high-energy songs pack a punch that perfectly sets the tone for the EP off the bat: self-reflective, gritty, and perseverant.
Switching up the playfulness of the first half of the EP, the final tracks offer reflective melancholy. The first of these, “Funeral,” is a sincere narration of a relationship’s aftermath, while the album’s final track, ‘wrong side’, is a somber but hopeful conclusion to the record. Straying from their usual upbeat bops, these two emotional ballads truly highlight the scope of the band. Their vocal performance, especially the layering, is captivating – and the minimal production allows their voices to truly shine.
As a whole, the EP has something for everyone. “Our new EP is the musical embodiment of the chaotic, heartbreaking, and healing journey we all endured as a group of five last year,” the band says of the EP’s variety of emotions. “Through the personal lyrics and melodies, you can hear and feel the emotions as we embrace all stages of heartbreak. Whether it be a song you play before you go out partying with your friends or a ballad that makes you cry in your room alone, there’s a song for every mood in me, my girls & i.”
