Chance of Lightning – the electronic/synth project from producer, songwriter, and global leading Logic Pro expert Darren Burgos – has released his debut album Connections today. The album focuses on the links between us all, and how far we’ll go to either nurture or sever those connections. The songs range from a couple drifting apart from one another, to using witchcraft to bind a reluctant lover to you,” explains Burgos. “Jealousy, narcissism, and insanity, all make their appearance on Connections, all to the tune of often bouncy pop and new-wave beats for contrast. Listen to the album now below.
“Much of the album was inspired by the ‘innocent days’ of synth-pop music from the late 70’s and early 80s,” says Burgos. “Back when a ‘band’ of synth/drum machine-toting kids would get together and play live parts and build songs in a traditional way, but with very non-traditional instruments.”
Darren Burgos has been creating electronic music for decades for himself, under various artist names including dozens of other collaborations. Freshly parted from a years-long collab with Lost in Stars artist Dylan Willoughby, Darren can now express himself fully – and answers to no one.
Darren is considered one of the world’s leading experts in Logic Pro, and because of this, has taught thousands of new and established musicians how to produce music. In the last 8 years, Darren has written and produced several releases for Elena Charbila from Kid Moxie, and Dylan Willoughby of Lost in Stars. He also wrote and composed 2017’s album Shattered Light by Future Fire with Dylan Willoughby. Using half hardware synthesizers and half virtual, today he makes a sophisticated blend of synth pop. synthwave, EDM, and pop as Chance of Lightning that challenges categorization, and that is purely intentional.
“I’ve learned over the years that making something that fits *too well* into a genre, is a good way to get lost and forgotten,” he says. “Why make something that sounds just like someone else? They beat you to it, so move on and do what feels natural to you.”
