Scotland born and New York-based singer songwriter, Elliot Greer has released his captivating new single “I Bought A Honda” today via Arista Records. Driven by Elliot’s signature storytelling, the song finds him recounting the warmth and melancholy of a past relationship with an uncanny attention to detail while he invents characters with relatable stories. As Road Trip to Playlist quoted, “The conviction in Greer’s voice is what elevates the storytelling in his lyrics.”
Speaking about the track, Elliot commented, ”Like many of my songs, ‘I Bought A Honda’ is a fictional story derived from glimpses of personal experience. Fleeting feelings that led my spiraling mind into some other walk of life; in this case, a man romanticizing his past so much that he buys an entire car just to feel connected to it. It’s silly when you say the name or try to summarize the concept, but the actual lyrics and melody will try their best to break your heart. You do have to listen carefully, but it’s worth it for the punchline I think.”
On the video, he added, “We shot the music video for ‘I Bought a Honda’ in the backroads of upstate New York. My director Sergio Miranda and creative team took a raw approach that felt truly authentic to the narrative and to me—which was perfect for my first “official” music video. Fun fact: one of our shoot days was actually the first day where that wildfire smoke was blowing over from Canada. And I was actually singing full out! If we’d known it was coming, we would have probably pushed back, haha. Totally killed my voice with all that smoke, but made for a cool yellow hue in some of the shots.”
On the songwriting process, Elliot commented, “I Bought a Honda” is a shift from my other recent releases in that we’ve experimented with a fuller, more produced sound. It’s exciting. It builds and takes you somewhere. My co-producer Nick Ruth really brought in ideas that complement my hand made approach. It really sparkles. “
