We The Kings have released their sophomore single, “The Best Part,” today via the recently minted Graveboy Records, the brainchild of Emo Nite founders T.J. Petracca and Morgan Freed. Tossing itself into the throes of heartache, “The Best Part” is a breakup ballad for the ages, which finds vocalist and guitarist Travis Clark depicting the painful process of trying to come to terms with being dumped. The endless pleading for a second chance is set against a deceptively upbeat backdrop, with suppressed pain seeping through the cracks of this anti-Valentine’s Day anthem.
With six studio albums to their name, We The Kings has reigned supreme at making hearts melt with a deep discography filled with all manner of rock & roll romance. For their follow-up release on Graveboy Records, however, the band is headed in the opposite direction. Switching up the plot for their latest single, the band shares their sentiments with a short and sweet introduction.
“We The Kings have written so many love songs over our career,” the band said of the new song, “We figured it was about time for a break up song.”
Back in October, the Florida natives touched down on the label with their debut offering, “Alien.” Dedicated to outcasts and misfits everywhere, the song broke down social constructs to give a voice to anyone who has felt like they don’t belong. On the back of their nostalgia-riddled narrative, We The Kings subsequently performed at the iconic Los Angeles Coliseum as part of the Grave at the Torch show presented by Emo Nite and Insomniac, and saw performances from Said The Sky, State Champs, and Nurko. A few weeks later, they embarked on their official 12-stop ‘Alien Invasion’ 2024 Tour, including dates at White Oak Music Hall, Vibes Event Center, Beer City Music Hall, High Diver, Rec Room, the Broadberry and more. Looking ahead, We The Kings are hitting the road with Simple Plan and Boys Like Girls on their Australian tour starting in April.
