Atlanta-based pop/rock band glimmers have released their burning new single, “Back To Hell” today. Mixing pop/rock instrumentals and cutting lyrics, the song depicts a friendship gone south. Reminiscent of coming-of-age films like Mean Girls and Heathers, the track takes a stand against fake friends set to a backdrop of earworm melodies, anthemic production and defiant vocals.
The music video, directed and edited by Patrick Gilchrist (Honey Revenge, Not My Weekend, This Wild Life), brings the song’s vision to life by taking the viewer through Hell, Heaven, and Purgatory. As the decider of the afterlife, Maggie Schneider (vocalist) reunites with an ex-childhood friend (played by Sophie Harris) to assess where she truly belongs. As flashback scenes unfold, the viewer relives the painful moments Maggie experienced as a child and teenager during their toxic friendship. It is a fun and campy reminder that mean girls reap what they sow.
“Back To Hell” marks the band’s second single as a three-piece. In October, the band dropped their bold track “Jaded,” which told the relatable story of female and non-male vocalists in the scene who have felt trapped by the never-ending cycle of imposter syndrome. Taking it a step further, the band dropped a stripped-down version of the track featuring Tay Jardine (We Are The In Crowd, SAINTE), a collaboration that highlighted the song’s message through solidarity and human connection. All in all, the band’s catalog since its formation has garnered positive attention from NPR, Alternative Press, idobi Radio, Emo Nite, and Hot Topic.
On the live front, glimmers joined The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for two sold-out shows in Florida back in February. Additionally, the band will be playing a hometown headlining show at The Masquerade’s new venue, The Altar, on April 13. Supported by Natalia Taylor and Caroline Reilly, the performance is a part of the room’s stunning lineup of shows.
