Rising singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lyn Lapid has announced her long-awaited debut album BUZZKILL, out April 25th via Mercury Records. Lapid celebrates the exciting announcement by gifting her fans with her second single off the upcoming record, “i’ll be happy when,” out now.
Lyn spent the past few years carefully crafting what would become BUZZKILL, inspired by the isolating experiences surrounding her move from her small suburban hometown in Maryland to the bustling city of Los Angeles, and all of the mixed emotions that came along with them. She shares, “Moving to the West Coast was a struggle. It was the first time I was in a new place by myself, and I didn’t know anyone outside of my roommates. I’d go to parties because I thought it was better than being alone. It was an attempt to find community, but it just became a cycle of meaningless interactions. Every time I went out with my friends, I felt like a ‘buzzkill’ because it seemed like I had always brought the mood down. However, it only seemed that way because I was with the wrong people. I needed to accept that I shouldn’t have to force myself to settle for surface-level friendships and relationships. It opened an opportunity to find new and truly meaningful connections and friendships.” BUZZKILL takes listeners on this all-too-relatable journey with Lyn, from experiencing loneliness and feelings of not belonging to radical self-acceptance and newfound confidence.
Her new single “i’ll be happy when” illustrates the beginning of the story she tells in BUZZKILL, and on the track, Lyn confesses, “I’ll be happy when this lonely city feels like mine.” Her vocals swoon above dreamy piano, then slip into the bounce of a glitchy beat. She elaborates, “I’m listing all of these things I thought I needed to accomplish in order to be happy. It dove into wanting friendships with substance. I’m just wondering, ‘Will I be able to have these things? Is it even worth trying for, or am I too late?’” Watch the official music video HERE.
Last month, Lyn introduced BUZZKILL with her first single off the record, “coraline.” Ones To Watch praised the song, saying, “‘Coraline’ dives into the loneliness that comes with finding yourself in a new place,” while Sweety High said, “The cool, moody beat of its verses creates a sense of isolation before the energetic chorus kicks in, conveying the yearning she feels for something more, weaving a tale of feeling like an outsider, like finding something like ‘home’ is forever out of reach.”
2024 saw Lyn release her fan favorite single “buttons” and collaborations with the likes of mxmtoon on “back from the dead,” Whethan on “Cruise Control,” and Eric Nam on “Wish I Didn’t Care.” Not to mention, she performed a packed set on the main stage of New York’s Head In The Clouds Fest, as well as surpassed over 830 million global streams across her catalog and amassed 5 million TikTok followers to date.
Stay tuned for more exciting announcements to come from Lyn Lapid soon.
