Promising pop sensation ASHY is captivating audiences with her newest single, “Ottoman,” out now via all DPSs. Hailing from Aotearoa, New Zealand, ASHY has been lauded for her shimmering vocals, polished production, and infectious melodies. She is also refreshingly vulnerable, crafting songs that highlight the vicissitudes of the human experience.
“Ottoman is about some of the challenges I’ve had in both the music industry and in life in general,” shares ASHY. “I’ve often been underestimated. The main lyrics in the pre chorus directly speak to how I’ve felt being an Indian woman in the commercial industry – and that I have had to work 10 times harder to be recognized on the same level as some of my peers. This has also happened many times in my daily life. I frequently must prove that I belong and should be treated the same as others.”
Produced by James Guido (Sydney, AUS), “Ottoman” was born out of a creative session following ASHY’s performance at SXSW Sydney. Reflecting on the song’s theme, ASHY shares, “An instance of this behavior came up during the festival, and I felt I needed to write about it. James and I instantly connected, and within four hours—between grabbing lunch and sharing our industry experiences—we created this song.”
With over 3.5 million streams across platforms and a string of high-profile collaborations, ASHY is rapidly solidifying her place as a force in the global music scene. The Concord Music Publishing signee has worked with top-tier producers, including Josh Fountain (BENEE), Ben Wylen (Ariana Grande), Adrian Breakspear (Pharrell Williams), Liam Quinn (Peach PRC), and Sam Trevethick (Shapeshifter).
ASHY’s accolades speak volumes: she’s a member of The Recording Academy (Grammys 2024), a Shure Brand Ambassador, and a two-time SXSW USA Official Performer (2023 & 2024). Her debut EP, Status, made waves in 2023, with “No Man’s Land” debuting at #1 on the NZ Charts and “Do Not Disturb” dominating airwaves. Rolling Stone Australia recognized her as one of “8 Kiwi Artists Tipped to Take Over” and ranked Status among the “Top 25 New Zealand Albums of 2023”.
ASHY has also landed high-profile sync placements in Grown-ish and Home and Away, and performance slots at Electric Avenue, The Great Escape UK, SXSW Sydney, and SXSW Austin. Most recently, ASHY completed a successful writing week in Nashville, took part in a BIGFAN songwriting camp at Joel Little’s renowned studio, performed at the NZ On Air Showcase, and opened for Drax Project on their New Zealand tour.
With an undeniable presence and a growing list of accolades, ASHY continues to build momentum as an international powerhouse.
