Colorado’s coldest and cloudiest day since fall starting was an oddly fitting setting for the warm vibes and jazz-influenced love ballads of Icelandic-Chinese singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Laufey. She hit the stage alongside Matilda Mann on the Everything I Know About Love tour at the Globe Hall October 6th, 2022. They arrived as they finished the U.S. leg of their almost completely sold-out tour as Laufey has gained much-deserving success from the release of her debut album and TikTok, welcoming her ballads, personally being excited for the event as I’ve been following her rise since ‘20.
Matilda Mann came on as the opener and quickly won over the growing crowd with the balance of her charming personality, soothing voice, and iconic cherry earrings. She spoke about this tour being her first time in America being from Europe and giving us an enjoyable performance, knowing it’s up from here for her playing her first headlining show in New York soon.
Once the venue was as packed & tight as it can get, a backing band came in waves as Laufey walked onstage and set up her guitar for “Fragile” to kickoff the show. If you’re a fan, you know it was nothing but tears and hits from there between her debut, Everything I Know About Love, and classic EP, Typical of Me, and hopping between guitars, piano, and cello. My highlight was the crowd goin word-for-word harmonizing with Laufey, the whole show that was emotionally welcoming and the show overall calming in the craziness of life.
Laufeys’ work has been quite personal as I’ve been facing mental health and life struggles that her music has felt like a calm escape. Her work has been both relaxing and motivating to have and it was a personal highlight to meet her and get to take part in that moment as I know it’s only up for her from here. With the deluxe version of Everything I Know About Love out now, I can’t recommend her work and tour as soon as possible.
