Crushed Velvet Interview

So, for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to listen to Love Crushed Velvet yet, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? How would you describe your sound?   We’re a rock band that likes to weave different influences into our sound.  There are elements of postpunk, classic rock and modern rock, as well as a bit of alternative. For your Delusions EP, did you have any specific influences or a certain sound that you were going for? One of our goals was to create a body of work that was a departure from our debut album without…

New Empire In A Breath

Review by Shannon Shumaker There are just some songs, some albums, that make you want to drive down the highway with your windows down, wind whipping through your hair, without a care in the world. In fact, I currently have a playlist of those kinds of songs and albums ready to go in case of a spur of the moment road trip, and New Empire’s new full-length, In A Breath definitely needs to be added to that list of albums. Seconds into the first track, “Tale of Jonah”, Jeremy Fowler’s vocals pull you right in, captivating and clear. In fact, it’s a…

Time in Place, the band’s debut album on Tooth & Nail Records, will invigorate anyone enamored by the multi-instrumentalism of The Dear Hunter, the melodic triumph of Circa Survive, the abrasive experimentalism of Orange County post-metalcore heroes Thrice, or the jaggedly explosive emotional outpouring of GlassjawArtifex Pereo, which consists of Jamie Davis (guitar/vocals), Cory Eaves (drums), Jordan Haynes (guitar), Lucas Worley (vocals), Eugene Barker (bass) and Jeremiah Brinkworth (keys), was forged from the remnants of two…

Fireworks Oh Common Life

Review by Shannon Shumaker The first time I listened to Fireworks’ newest album Oh, Common Life, I was actually at work, therefore I was half-paying attention and half-working. Still, even with their album on as background noise, one line in the song “Run, Brother, Run” about vocalist Dave’s father really caught my attention, pulling at the heartstrings and prompting me to go home and buy the album so I could listen to it again while I was really listening. “I was twenty-five when my dad died; My arms felt weak, my heart grew tired.” The line in “Run, Brother, Run” caught my attention…
