Fresh off the heels of performances at SXSW and Treefort Music Fest, raucous roots-rock singer Brent Cowles has released a new song and acoustic video component for “Lift Me Up (Leave Me Here).” The song follows the release of Cowles’ debut single and title-track for his upcoming EP, “Cold Times“.
Cowles will release his debut EP Cold Times on April 28 via Dine Alone Records and Greater Than Collective.
About the new song and video, he explains, “There’s some kind of magic in Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, and you can feel it whether it’s empty or full of thousands. The song ‘Lift Me Up’ is a blunt description of the dark places I’ve been throughout my life. I’ve always appreciated music that is relatable, and I think everyone finds themselves in a dark place at some point or another.”
While the ‘Cold Times’ referenced on the soulful EP are intensely personal, the sentiment has taken on an entirely new and expanded meaning in a post-Trump America.
“I feel like we’ve been forced to choose sides, and that’s creating this wall between a lot of people – people who I’ve had relationships with for a long time, and there’s now this rift between us that wasn’t there before,” Cowles said. “It has a lot to do with what’s going on in our government and around the world, because of course there’s more happening than just what’s in our backyard.”
Brent Cowles and his four-piece band will be playing a hometown EP release show at the Hi-Dive in Denver, Co on April 28th.
