Los Angeles-based electro/pop artist Kayls has released her new single “Champagne Lover,” taken from her forthcoming debut EP Modern Savages. The EP – produced by Rostrum Records trio BRÅVES – is slated for release on February 23rd. Of the new song, Kayls admits, “’Champagne Lover’ is about a specific moment in time when I fell for someone who was reckless with more than just my heart. It was a whirlwind romance. Lots of late nights, friendship, passion, desire, and eventually heartbreak.“
After moving to Los Angeles at the age of 18, Kayls did what any young singer would do—connect and work with as many “industry” people as possible. With her big, bright eyes and bubbly demeanor, those in the biz insisted she become the next Katy Perry or Kelly Clarkson. After writing and recording an album of bubblegum pop tracks, something just didn’t feel right.
Kayls took the scrapped album as a sign to refocus and produce the music she wanted to make instead of what she thought was expected from her. After 20+ years of being a people pleaser, she drew the line. Music is too sacred to compromise.
In the years that passed, she connected to those who shared her passion for raw, authentic music, which led her to BRÅVES. The dark electro pop trio understood her want to make genuine, personal pop music, and together they wrote, produced and recorded the five songs that make up Kayls’ debut EP, Modern Savages.
