The Bad Dreamers – the new wave project from Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter, and filmmaker David Schuler – has shared their new single “Reach You”. The track will be featured on The Bad Dreamers’ debut full-length album Songs About People Including Myself, out on October 25th.
After years of writing and producing songs with artists like P!nk, John Legend, New Politics and many others, David Schuler stumbled into a bit of unexpected inspiration which lead to The Bad Dreamers. He needed music for his new short film The Offer, and began to write songs for it. The result was a flood of inspiration, so he chose to keep writing and record an album. Musically, The Bad Dreamers have a synthwave-meets-indie-pop sound drawing bits and pieces from 80s staples like Tears for Fears, Prince, Depeche Mode, and others, while tapping into current indie-pop soundscapes a la St. Lucia and The 1975.
“‘Reach You’ is a song about struggling to communicate with someone close,” David Schuler explains. “I’ve had the production laying around for nearly a year or so and there are maybe 6 versions of the song that nobody will ever hear. This was maybe the most difficult song on the record to produce, for a number of reasons, but mainly due to the tempo and the overall vibe I was trying to create.”
In addition to releasing new music, The Bad Dreamers are currently on a stretch of East Coast & Texas tour dates with retrowave heavyweights FM-84, all of which can be found below.
