Buzzing 19-year-old bedroom pop singer-songwriter Conan Gray has released the music video for his new single “Crush Culture”. “Crush Culture” is the latest track to be unveiled from his anxiously awaited Sunset Season EP— arriving November 16 via Republic Records.
Conan comments on the new song, “I wrote ‘Crush Culture’ for my fellow heartbroken single people. I’ve been single for all of my 19 years of my life—haven’t even had my first kiss yet! Meanwhile, all of my friends have burned through several heart-throbbing, mushy-gushy, morbidly loving relationships; all while I watched longingly from the sidelines. Eventually, I’d just gotten so sick of watching everyone around me being in love. It’s gotten to a point where when I see people who are in love, I get so bitter from my lack of love that I just want to destroy every relationship in sight (hence the music video of me ruining people’s dates). Since I can’t be in love, no one can—that was my logic. I wanted to write a song for the loveless, thus ‘Crush Culture’ was born.”
Conan personally envisioned a cinematic (and perfectly appropriate) music video for the song. Culled from a treatment by Conan, the clip sees our lovelorn and scorned hero ruin a series of dates at his high school in hilarious fashion.
It follows hot on the heels of his new fan favorite millennial call-to-arms “Generation Why.” To date, the track has clocked 3 million Spotify and YouTube views combined, in addition to receiving widespread critical acclaim. Praising the single, Idolator wrote, “If this is any indication, Conan is definitely One To Watch.” Next up, he embarks on his instantly SOLD OUT debut headline tour, kicking off October 28 Houston, TX before rolling through major markets coast-to-coast and closing out on November 20 in New York, NY.
