SWIMM have released your next favorite party anthem, aptly titled “Weekend”. The new track takes the listener on a rager of a Friday night circa 1978 – driving to a party at the Water Tower or hopping in the back of your friend’s car to hit a club on the Strip. It’s the soundtrack to throwing caution to the wind and going where the night and your friends, both old and new, take you.
Fans can listen to “Weekend” on Soundcloud or Spotify now and look for it as a bonus track on the special edition of their beloved 2015 EP Beverly Hells out November 29th.
The band’s Chris Hess said of the song, “‘Weekend’ is meant to be a mindless escape inspired by all our friends that work really hard and at times get paid very little for it… Aka operating as a ‘freelance anything’. I’ve always been obsessed with Kim Gordon… especially Experimental Jet Set Trash and Star era, and basically wore my WWKD bracelet for this one. To harken back to the cruiser vibe of our last single “Mind’s Eye”, we decided we’d take a left turn with the bridge. Every party has a bossa nova inspired ‘cigarette break’ at some point ya know? So maybe you spent more on tequila than what you got paid, maybe you didn’t find love but pretended a little, maybe things got weirder than you intended… as long as your buds are there, it’s all good.”
For almost a year, fans anxiously awaited the debut full-length album from East LA pysch-pop outfit, SWIMM. On June 5th of this year, the band finally delivered Sentimental Porno, a pristine collection of eleven tracks that range from the serene to the full-on psychedelic. The record puts the band’s diversity on full display, painting the picture of a trio of disciplined songwriters (Chris Hess, Adam Winn and Hany Zayan) that have found the balance between meticulous arrangements and free-flowing creativity. The result is a slacker rock album that will encourage listeners to consume as one piece – bucking the current trend of albums as a loosely connected collections of disposable singles. You can listen now on Spotifyand Soundcloud and a very limited run of vinyl is available on the band’s bandcamp.
The city of Los Angeles is deeply woven into SWIMM’s story. Since relocating to LA, both the beautiful, open-minded side of the city and it’s sometimes vapid plasticity have served as muses for the band’s music. In its creative community, SWIMM’s Chris Hess and Adam Winn have found a family that has propelled them to push the artistic envelope at each turn in their story. They have even added two members of their Los Angeles family, Hany Zayan and Marton Bizits, to the SWIMM lineup.
