Oscar Jerome Shares New Single, “Misty Head / Sunny Street”

    By Dom VigilJanuary 11, 2019

Ethereal Massachusetts duo, Handsome Ghost have been growing and evolving ever since their debut single, “Blood Stutter” put them on the map in 2014.

South London singer-songwriter Oscar Jerome has released his new single, “Misty Head / Sunny Street” today. The new track arrives after a busy 2018 that saw Oscar sell out 700+ capacity venues, tour both sides of the Atlantic and pick up an ever-growing international reputation. Keeping up that momentum, and with a new single in tow, Oscar will be embarking on a short European tour in Feb and travelling back to the States in March for SXSW.

To say that Jerome had a restless 2018 would be an understatement. One of the capital’s finest purveyors of soulful jazzy vibes, Jerome has been busy getting playlisted and tipped by the likes of 6 Music, 1Xtra and Boiler Room, selling out London’s Village Underground and touring consistently – recently playing a run of shows in the US and further cementing his fast-growing international audience.

“Misty Head / Sunny Street” dines on an influence of jazz, funk and hip-hop but is delivered with the songwriter’s signature lo-fi grit. Driven by a warped Thundercat-esque bassline, the track rides an intoxicating groove as Jerome’s lysergic guitars and impassioned vocals serenade above a warm bed of technicolour synth hues. Talking about the track, he says: “This ones a little funky number I wrote when in a confused but happy state. I have to give a shout out to Maxwell Owin for helping with the production on this too, one of my best friends and favourite music makers.”

“Misty Head / Sunny Street” is the latest addition to a vibrant back-catalogue that’s unquestionably marked Jerome out as a tour de force in the burgeoning London jazz scene. It arrives after 2018’s Where Are Your Branches? EP and the follow-up single ‘Do You Really’ – both of which building on the critical acclaim of his debut self-titled EP released back in 2016. If last year was anything to go by then you’d be pretty safe betting on 2019 being the year of Oscar Jerome – this new single offering an assured and hopeful taste of what’s to come.
