Los Angeles-based electronic duo Phantoms (aka Kyle Kaplan and Vinnie Pergola), alongside vocalist and songwriter Shaylen, have released their late-night rendezvous bop “Are You Up” today via Casablanca Records / Republic Records. Also announced today is the duo’s upcoming EP featuring the new single, to be released this Spring 2019. Watch the official lyric video now below.
Phantoms comment on the new song and collaboration, “‘Are You Up’ is the first single from our upcoming EP, and it’s about those late night loves we’ve all had from time to time. It’s not necessarily a good or bad thing, but you both know it’s not going be more. Working with Shaylen on this the track was incredible. She’s extremely talented and her voice complemented the sultry late-night vibe of track perfectly.”
Shaylen adds, “I’ve definitely gotten my share of those late night ‘are you up’ texts. Sometimes I’ve responded and other times, not so much. I like how conversational ‘Are You Up’ is. It’s honest and doesn’t try too hard.”
Last year, Phantoms released the much buzzed about “Lay With Me” feat. Vanessa Hudgens, which has amassed over 11 million combined streams to date. The success of “Lay With Me” followed their chart topping “Just A Feeling” [feat. VÉRITÉ] from the duo’s self-titled debut, Phantoms out via Casablanca Records / Republic Records. “Just A Feeling” clinched the #1 spot on the Sirius/XM BPM Top 20 Countdown for over eight weeks and shattered the previous record in the process. It closed out 2017 as #1 on the Countdown and BPM’s “Breaker of the Year.” The single held the #1 spot at Dance Radio for 4 straight weeks in addition to peaking at #1 on the iTunes Top Electronic Songs Chart and clearing over 15 million combined streams to date. Last summer, Phantoms played Firefly Festival, Electric Forest, SnowGlobe and Billboard Hot 100 Festival. This year, they are continuing on the road hitting festivals around the globe, including Ultra and making their Japan debut later this Spring. Applauded by NPR, Billboard, Dancing Astronaut, and more, Phantoms have cemented their status as electronic music’s hottest live act.
Hailing from Dallas, TX, vocalist and songwriter Shaylen is both equal parts veteran and neophyte to the music industry. A former pop group member turned solo star, Shaylen recently released her debut singles, “El Dorado” and “Isn’t You” via Republic Records. The songs set the stage for more music to come from Shaylen this spring, telling the story of a rising powerhouse who is back…for the very first time.
