On Friday, Mega Ran & MC Lars released the latest new track from their literary themed LP The Dewey Decibel System. “Gulliver’s Travels” is a reggae inspired duet with 90s rock icon JILL SOBULE, with a chorus written by PATENT PENDING’S Joe Ragosta. With lyrics following the duo as they travel around the world, “Gulliver’s Travels” is a fantastic teaching tool that ties into some of Jonathan Swift’s social satire.
Funded entirely through Kickstarter, The Dewey Decibel System sees Mega Ran and MC Lars rapping about everyone from Edgar Allan Poe to William Shakespeare to Ta-Nehisi Coates. The fourteen-track album also features collaborations with Jill Sobule, Bowling for Soup’s Jaret Reddick, YouTube legend Dan Bull, nerdcore pioneer MC Frontalot, Mello Music’s Quelle Chris, A$AP Rocky producer Charlie Mumbles, and Akon producer Matt Weiss, amongst others.
Mega Ran and MC Lars are no strangers to the rap game. Both hosts of respective podcasts, Mega Ran is a 2019 Guinness World Record holder, and has found success playing huge festivals, conventions, professional wrestling events and has toured the world alongside Lars, across the UK, Europe and Japan (where Mega Ran has built a dedicated following in the “chip-hop” community, merging 8-bit beats with unparalleled lyricism). MC Lars has hosted two TEDx talks, premiered a song at Carnegie Hall, survived three complete Warped Tours, opened for Snoop Dogg, and collaborated with “Weird Al” Yankovic and KRS-One.
Currently on the road together in the UK, the duo will kick off the North American leg of the tour on April 30th in Fargo, ND. In addition to the dates together, Mega Ran performed on Friday at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater at ROH’s G1 Supercard Festival in NYC and MC Lars will celebrate ten years of Robot Kills at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall on June 8th.
