Chicago-based indie pop outfit, Marina City has released the music video for “Strawberry” today. The video was directed by Philip Goode of Super Goode Films.
“This is a video of 6 best friends who bought $35 worth of random things at a Party City,” explains Ryan Argast. “‘Strawberry’ sounds fun, it was fun to record, and it was tons of fun to make its video. We will have plenty of rainy days to sing about things that have deeply bruised us. For now, it’s summer and we just want to dance. When life gives you lemons, make strawberry lemonade.”
Partnering with super producer, Dino Zisis (Lady Gaga), Marina City was free to explore their childhood influences of some of the world’s biggest icons, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Queen along with today’s most exciting artists, The 1975, Foster The People, and The Weeknd. Now armed with an arsenal of new singles, Marina City have grown into their own distinctive sound. The band’s slinky and seductive 2019 debut “Addicted” completed the transformation to the new era. The band sold out their hometown headliner, performed on WGN MORNING NEWS in Chicago, and amassed 120,000 Spotify streams since “Addicted”’s release. “Strawberry,” a Prince-inspired summer anthem, marks the next phase of the band’s new era, and has already reached over 80,000 Spotify streams since its release in May.
Marina City is sexy, dark, dynamic, broke, beautiful, groovy, and it’s nothing you can quite put your finger on. The band doesn’t care what genre they are classified in. They burnt it all down and found who they truly were underneath.
