sum 41 make a triumphant return on the dont call it a sum back tour 1

Sum 41’s Don’t Call It A Sum-Back Tour has been a long time making. After having so much success with a Grammy nomination and the longest running tour of their career, Sum 41 had not only lost their spark, but they almost lost vocalist and guitarist Deryck Whibley. However, after years of soul searching, that flame was brought back tenfold. As Whibley was once again sober and out of physical therapy, he assembled his bandmates to begin on their new record. Whibley’s time through his recoveries were filled with writing material that has been used for the group’s sixth full-length album, 13 Voices, and this tour is their triumphant return!

anthony green commands summit music hall 1

When entering the Summit Music Hall on Friday, I knew that I was in for a treat. With Anthony Green known for his untouchable stage presence and two impressive recent releases from both of the opening acts, my expectations were set pretty high, and from the moment I walked in the venue, the sense of camaraderie between the each musician on the tour and all the fans in the room was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

despite sound problems blink 182 give fans the show of a lifetime 1

When Mark Hoppus made a joke about playing in a tin can, it was obvious that he was poking fun at the name of Denver’s venue, the Pepsi Center, but even from the more expensive floor seats, his words rang true. Although I’ve lived in Colorado my entire life, this was my first concert at the Pepsi Center, but long before Blink-182, or their openers The All-American Rejects and A Day To Remember took the stage, I was already well aware that the venue is notorious for not having the greatest sound. Unfortunately, this was proven true throughout the night as sets were riddled with sound problems, but thankfully, each band’s performance (especially Blink-182’s) more than made up for the less than high quality sound system.

crobots killer guide to colorado food beer and weed

The Pennsylvania-based Crobot may not be Colorado natives, but the food, beer and weed experts might as well be. Having just stopped through the state in support of their new album (and aptly named) “Welcome To Fat City,” out September 23rd, Crobot have had their fair share of Colorado eats, drinks and smokes and are happy to share their knowledge with locals and visitors alike.

taste of chaos red rocks amphitheatre 7616 1

Halfway through their set at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Taking Back Sunday frontman Adam Lazzara said what we all were thinking – “I know many of you are here for nostalgic purposes.” To an extent, it was true. Having grown up listening to the four bands on this year’s Taste of Chaos lineup (Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin and The Early November) not only was this show the perfect excuse for me to finally catch a concert at Red Rocks for the first time, but it almost felt like a high school reunion. However when Lazzara continued, his words seemed to spark something inside of many of the twenty and thirty-somethings in the crowd. “We were there when you got your driver’s license, we were there when you began to explore your bodies in the back of your dad’s car, when you did or did not go to college, and we’re not going anywhere.” As it turns out, we’re still those same emo teenagers at heart.
